The Infinite is a program established by AXÉ L.A. Cultural Center, a 501(c)3 California Corporation with a mission to provide yoga, martial arts, holistic and preventative health care awareness to the diverse communities in Los Angeles County that have disparities in the number of people of color practicing yoga.
AXÉ L.A. Cultural Center was founded in 2008 by Long Beach native Dana Nicole Robinson after her Yatra to India in 2007. After completing a year long teacher training with Gurmukh, Harijiwan, Tej, and Gurusabd, and Gurudahn of Golden Bridge Los Angeles she was named Paramgeet Kaur. The name means lioness who sings songs to The Infinite.
Dana decided to establish a charitable organization that offered donation-based yoga classes and innovative outreach strategies to address the disparities in the number of people of color practicing yoga (especially black men & LGBTQ citizens of Los Angeles County).
In 2010, AXÉ L.A. Cultural Center acquired a 2,900 square foot facility located at 517 Pine Avenue in the heart of downtown Long Beach. AXÉ L.A. Cultural Center Board members have been fundraising and renovating the building in preparation for The Infinite’s grand opening on August 26, 2010. With the assistance of community volunteers, we anticipate that The Infinite Yoga of Long Beach will be the hub for healthy living in Downtown Long Beach.
She has taught LGBTQ Yoga classes as a program at The Infinite since it opened its doors and is now preparing to lead the largest class of African American Men practicing Yoga in Los Angeles County.
Dana is passionate about exploring new ways to be eco-friendly, music, culture, dance, sharing her love for yoga, building community (for real; not just because it's trendy) social entrepreneurship, Long Beach, and skating to work on her long board.
She graduated from the School of Performing Arts at Santa Clara University in 2001. There she studied Choreography and Ethnic Studies. She traveled to Cuba in 1998 to study folkloric dance and music. In 2002 she joined Public Allies Los Angeles and began an internship with The Multicultural Collaborative (an organization that developed to address the 1992 L.A. Riots). She attended Graduate School in the M.B.A. School of Nonprofit Management at the University of Judaism (now known as the American Jewish University AJU). In 2008 she left The California Endowment (California's largest private health care foundation) where she worked for over 3 years in the Center for Healthy Communities. She has since devoted her energy to promoting yoga, health, and well-being.
